Ballet trip to Zurich and Munich April 2017

DRAFT ITINERARY
BOOKING OPENS EARLY DECEMBER, AT WHICH TIME PACKAGE PRICE WILL BE FINALIZED.

Although casting will not be announced for some time yet, the Bavarian State Ballet counts the following international ballet stars in its roster:

Monday 3 April: ZURICH (B)

Arrive Zurich. Check in to 4-star hotel, a short walk from Zurich Opera House 
 

Tuesday 4 April: ZURICH (B,D)

Morning: Private guided bus tour of Zurich. Afternoon: Private guided tour of Zurich Opera House. Evening: welcome dinner then performance of Zurich Ballet: Swan Lake (Reconstruction of original Petipa/Ivanov version by Alexei Ratmansky)




Wednesday 5 April: ZURICH (B,D)

Morning: Watch Zurich Ballet company class.  Afternoon at leisure. Suggested activities: 

  • take a boat cruise on the Limmat river, lined with guild houses, or the Zurichsee
  • visit the Kunsthaus, Switzerland's major art gallery
  • window shop or visit the clock museum along chic Bahnhofstrasse
  • admire Chagall's stained-glass windows in the Fraumunster
  • savour the world's best chocolate at Zurich's many chocolate shops, or book a chocolate-tasting tour

Evening: Traditional Swiss fondue dinner

Thursday 6 April: ZURICH - MUNICH (B)

Morning at leisure. Check out of hotel. Transfer by train (4 hours) to Munich. Check in to 3-star Domus hotel,10 minutes walk from Nationaltheater 

 

Friday 7 April: MUNICH (B)

Morning at leisure. Afternoon: 2-hour private guided walking tour of the historic centre of Munich. Evening: performance of Stanislavsky Ballet, Mayerling (MacMillan).


Saturday 8 April: MUNICH (B)

Visit to Nymphenburg palace with private guided tour. Afternoon at leisure. Private guided tour of the Nationaltheater, Munich's opera house. Evening: performance of Bavarian State Ballet: Spartacus (Grigorovich).


Sunday 9 April: MUNICH (B)

11 am - 1 pm: Performance of the Bavarian State Ballet School and Junior Company. Afternoon at leisure. Suggested activity: visit the adjacent palatial former residence of the Bavarian monarchy, with its jewel-like 18th-century theatre. Evening: Bavarian State Ballet: Symphony in C (Balanchine), In the Night (Robbins), Adam Is (Barton).


Monday 10 April: MUNICH (B)

Optional: train trip to the beautiful Bavarian Alps to visit Herrenchiemsee, one of “Mad” King Ludwig II's numerous castle-building projects.

Other suggested activities:

visit one of Munich's many renowned museums

stroll in the lovely English Garden

have some classic coffee and cake at a cafe

car lovers can visit the BMW museum

if you love to shop, visit the luxury outlet shopping village in Ingolstadt, one hour by train from Munich

take a day trip to Nuremberg, one hour from Munich

Evening: Bavarian State Ballet: Romeo and Juliet (Cranko) 
 

Tuesday 11 April: MUNICH (B,D)

Day at leisure. Evening: Bavarian State Ballet: La Fille mal Gardée (Ashton)


Wednesday 12 April: MUNICH (B)
Daytrip by train to Augsburg (50 minutes from Munich). Afternoon: guided walking tour of Historic Augsburg. Evening: farewell dinner before  Ballet Augsburg: Carmen (Valentina Turcu),  Bolero (Riccardo De Nigrisille). Return to Munich.

Thursday 13 April: MUNICH (B)

Check out of hotel and depart Munich.


Optional 2-day extension
Saturday 1 April: ZURICH (B)

Arrive Zurich. Check in to 4-star Opera Hotel, two minutes walk from Zurich Opera House



Sunday 2 April: ZURICH (B)

Afternoon: Zurich Ballet Junior company performance: Un Ballo (Kylián) and new works by Benoît Favre, Filipe Portugal and Cayetano Soto
