Elisa Carrillo Cabrera is prima ballerina for the Berlin State
Ballet, she is also a proud Ambassador of Mexican Culture in the world
(named so by the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico itself). Elisa started
the ballet at the age of 5. When she was 16, she won a scholarship at
the English National Ballet in London and moved to Europe. Away from her
family, the dancer worked hard to become the prima ballerina she is
today. Not only is she a wonderful dancer, Elisa is also a philanthropic
person: having created a foundation with the purpose of helping
children develop their artistic skills in Mexico.
Determined to bring Mexican society closer to the art of dance, Elisa schedules a tour there every year, calling her dancer friends to join her in this mission. This year, the soloists participating in this beautiful gala come from the Staatsballett Berlin, the Staastsballett Berlin-Royal Ballet, the Boris Eifman Ballet, La Scala de Milán, the Norwegian National Ballet, the Boston Ballet, the Bayerische Staatsballet, the English National Ballet... and include the Russian dancer Mikhail Kaniskin—who is also the Artistic Director of the gala.
The program, which opens with And the Sky on that Cloudy Old Day by Marco Goecke, is diverse. It features classical pieces and contemporary ones: Bruno Moretti's Caravaggio, performed by Elisa Carrillo Cabrera and Mikhail Kaniskin, Grand Pas Classique by Gsovsky, performed by Iana Salenko and Marian Walter; as well as most unusual choreographies (Van Cauwenbergh's adaptation of Jacques Brel's song Les Bourgeois...); and many more beautiful pieces. The last dance, Nacho Duato's Arcángelo, is danced by lead dancers and soloists of the Staatsballett Berlin. Discover this special event broadcast live from Mexico on medici.tv.
