Enter the creative process of Ohad Naharin, an Israeli choreographer whose joyous performances have redefined the language of dance. Once a sought-after dancer in the company of Martha Graham, Naharin has spent the past 25 years pushing the boundaries of physical and political expression at Tel Aviv's Batsheva Dance Company. Through rich archival footage, intimate rehearsals and eye-popping dance sequences, director Tomer Heymann crafts an affectionate portrait of a cultural maverick and his audacious efforts to bring the joy of movement to people of all ages and physical abilities. The product of an eight-year collaboration between Heymann and his subject, Mr. Gaga is a feast for the senses, celebrating an artist whose exuberant dances capture the thrills and burdens of having a body. Lawren Harris-inspired ballet at the Art Gallery of Ontario

The Dreamers Ever Leave You
An immersive ballet inspired by the work of Lawren Harris
performed in gallery at the AGO

This fall, the Art Gallery of Ontario and The National Ballet of Canada come together to co-present The Dreamers Ever Leave You, an innovative new ballet created and choreographed by rising star Robert Binet and inspired by the work of iconic Canadian painter Lawren Harris. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition The Idea of North: The Paintings of Lawren Harris, The Dreamers Ever Leave You is an immersive ballet created for a gallery setting.

Featuring music by composer Lubomyr Melnyk and performed at the Art Gallery of Ontario by artists of The National Ballet, The Dreamers Ever Leave You invites visitors to move through the gallery as the performance happens around them. Melnyk will perform his score live in the space alongside the dancers, who will move freely under shifting light and colour, evoking Harris’ majestic visions of land, light and sky.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on March 24 at 10 am.

Visitors are invited to move throughout the gallery as the performance happens around them. We recommend visitors plan to stay for 30 minutes or more. For visitors with accessibility needs a very limited number of seats will be available. Tickets will be timed, with three entry times available per performance.

The Idea of North: The Paintings of Lawren Harris is co-organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Hammer Museum curated by comedian, musician, actor and writer Steve Martin in collaboration with Cynthia Burlingham, Deputy Director, Curatorial Affairs at the Hammer Museum, and Andrew Hunter, Fredrik S. Eaton Curator of Canadian Art at the AGO.  At the core of this exhibition are more than 30 of Harris's most significant northern landscapes from the 1920s and 1930s, drawn from major public and private collections.
