Start times are not uniform, although most screenings will begin at 12:55 pm. West of Ontario, Landmark Cinemas will be going with earlier start times (meaning, for example, that screenings in Greater Vancouver will be starting three hours apart depending on the theater). Start times in Atlantic Canada are traditionally later than in the rest of the country.

For other showings at Landmark, you have to go to the incredibly cumbersome Landmark website, choose a theatre near you, and then click on the "Experiences" tab and scroll WAY down to the Royal Ballet icon and click on it.

Bolshoi Ballet performances will be shown only at Cineplex theatres. For the complete list of Bolshoi and Royal Ballet live broadcasts, please click here.

In spite of the cinema chains' best efforts to keep these performances top secret, please support ballet broadcasts in Canada to make sure we keep getting them.

Bolshoi's Artem Ovcharenko to play Nureyev in film

Artem Ovcharenko, premier of the Bolshoi Ballet,  has been approved for the role of Rudolf Noureev in the film by director Carlson Smith. The shooting will be done by a team from London especially for the BBC.

Certainly Ovcharenko has a striking facial resemblance to Nureyev.

Born in Dnepropetrovsk, USSR (now Ukraine), Artem Ovcharenko began studying ballet at the Dnipropetrovsk State Choreographic School when he was 11 years old. At the age of 17, he entered the Bolshoi Ballet Academy where he participated in the Academy’s tours to the U.S., Greece, Germany, China and other countries. He graduated in 2007 and was admitted to the Bolshoi Ballet in the corps de ballet.

As one of the promising young generation of the Bolshoi company, Artem’s repertoire covers most of the classical romantic roles: Romeo, The Prince in The Nutcracker, and Prince Siegfried, as well as leading roles in neoclassical productions such as George Balanchine’s Apollo and Jewels; Lady of the Camellias by John Neumeier, Onegin by John Cranko, Lost Illusions by Alexei Ratmansky, and Marco Spada by Pierre Lacotte. With an ever-eager interest in exploring new roles, Artem has had much success in the contemporary ballets staged at the Bolshoi, such as Chroma by Wayne McGregor, Classical Symphony by Yuri Possokhov, and The Taming of the Shrew by Jean-Christophe Maillot.
Artem has participated in the Bolshoi Ballet tours to Asia, Europe and Americas, and he is a welcome guest star in famous international companies such as Berlin State Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Hamburg State Opera, and also at international ballet festivals and national culture projects.
Artem took part in some prestigious dance competitions, receiving gold at the Tanzolymp in Berlin in 2006, and another at the Arabesque competition in Perm in 2008. In 2009 he won a Special prize “To the best partner” at the International competition of ballet dancers, and was awarded with “The Rising Star” nomination. In 2010 he took part in the International Festival "World Ballet Stars" in Donetsk, Ukraine. In January 2011, he performed with Bolshoi principal, Nina Kaptsova at the 6th Prague Ballet Gala, and in August, he danced with Anna Tikhomirova, at the closing gala-concert of the 8th Congress of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations in Hanoi. In July 2012, he and Anna Tikhomirova participated in Rossiya K’s "Grand Ballet Project", (televised in December 2012), where they were awarded the Grand Prix as "Best Ballet Duo".
In 2013, Artem Ovcharenko was promoted to the rank of Principal Dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet.

Alessandra Ferri, one of the world's best Juliets, will be returning to the role in MacMillan's ballet for one performance only with American Ballet Theatre next June 23 at the Metropolitan Opera House, the  New York Times has announced. Her partner will be the brilliant Herman Cornejo. The Grand Theatre de Bordeaux

One of Europe's oldest opera houses, the magnificent Grand Theatre de Bordeaux, opened in 1780. Check out the spectacular interior in this short video. I hope to organize a Tours en l'air trip to see Ballet de l'Opéra National de Bordeaux and its not-too-distant neighbour the Ballet du Capitole du Toulouse in 2017.  (Plus sample the local wines, of course!)
