New Kudelka piece to Brahms Intermezzi

James Kudelka will be choreographing a piece for the Coleman Lemieux company to Brahms' beautiful intermezzi for piano. It will premiere as part of the Art of Time series in Toronto in April.
More about the program:
Apr 9–11, 2015, 8PM
Intermezzi
Harbourfront Centre
Brahms’ gorgeous Intermezzi for solo piano, characterized by introspection and emotional depth, include some of his final compositions. Canadian dance legends James Kudelka and Peggy Baker each explore a collection of Brahms’ intermezzi, with intriguingly contrasting results. This program features a world premiere by Kudelka for eight dancers, and one of Baker’s earliest solo works, both accompanied by Andrew Burashko on piano.

Produced in association with Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie and the National Arts Centre's Ontario Scene

Justin Peck's Ballet 422 doc screening in Toronto

The Bloor Cinema in Toronto will be showing the prize-winning documentary Ballet 422, which has been getting rave reviews.
From first rehearsal to world premiere, Ballet 422 takes us backstage at the New York City Ballet (NYCB) as dancer and up-and-coming choreographer Justin Peck crafts a new work. Ballet 422 illuminates the process behind creating a ballet within the ongoing cycle of rehearsals and performances at one of the world’s great ballet companies. Under the artistic direction of Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins, NYCB boasts a roster of more than 90 elite dancers and a repertory of works by many of ballet’s greatest choreographers. For the Company’s 2013 Winter Season Justin Peck is commissioned to create a new ballet. With unprecedented access to an elite world, the film presents an unembellished vérité portrait of the process as Peck collaborates with musicians, lighting designers, costume designers and his fellow dancers to create Paz de la Jolla, NYCB’s 422nd new ballet.
